Lessons

A typical cello lesson will include playing a scale/arpeggio, an etude, and piece from the cello repertoire.  Students will learn all major and minor scales to become familiar with the various patterns and positions on the cello.  Studying the etudes/exercises will help to build up our technical skills, which are necessary for playing the solo pieces.  In the solo piece, we will emphasize musicality and interpretation, which will enable the student to find their artistic voice and effectively express/communicate the music to an audience.

We will learn how to build efficient practicing habits by finding a strategy to optimize a student’s practice time.  Students should identify problems and focus their efforts on the more difficult sections of the assignments before playing pieces through from beginning to end.  Practicing music using a combination of analysis, problem-solving, and focused repetition is more productive than practice through repetition only.

We will work to understand music theory, develop our musicality, and push to reach our potential.  While each student may learn at a different pace, all students will feel constantly engaged and challenged.
